Mediasonic support replied : 'the unit is dead and has to be replaced. Symptom : Led stays red, never goes to green as it should when powered on by remote or front panel power button.

Update July 2018 : Unit failed after 2.5 years. No problem for me, never missed a recording yet. It relies on what the channels are transmitting OTA for time.
